Thermally Bonded Nonwoven: Better Dryness
Thermally bonded nonwoven is made by using hot air to penetrate the fiber layer, causing the fibers to adhere to each other. Its surface has fine, uneven textures. When liquid contacts it, it quickly goes down and does not stay on the surface. We tested this: pour 10 ml of liquid on thermally bonded nonwoven, the residual moisture on the surface is less than 0.5 grams. When you touch it, it feels basically dry. That is why thermally bonded nonwoven is the mainstream top sheet for Baby Diapers and adult pullup pants – stable dryness performance, less risk of diaper rash.
■ Cotton Nonwoven: Higher Softness, but Less Dry
Cotton topsheets really feel softer, like gauze – friendly to the skin. But cotton fibers swell when they absorb liquid, so liquid does not go into the core quickly. Under the same test conditions, the residual moisture on a cotton topsheet is 1.5 to 2 grams, which is wetter than thermally bonded nonwoven. If not changed promptly, the baby may feel stuffy. Cotton topsheets are suitable for users with very sensitive skin or those who change frequently, or for making highend organic cotton products. For everyday use, thermally bonded nonwoven offers better value for money.
How to Choose? Depends on Product Positioning and Budget
Mid range baby diapers, adult pull up pants: Choose thermally bonded nonwoven first – dry, stable, cost controllable.
High end organic cotton series: You can choose a cotton topsheet, but it is best to add a fast acquisition distribution layer to compensate for the poorer dryness.
Overnight or high absorbency products: Must use thermally bonded nonwoven, otherwise the wetness all night will easily cause rashes.
