When the pad is used, body heat, moisture, and friction gradually break the capsules, releasing the cooling agent and producing a sustained, gentle cooling sensation. The advantage of this method is that the cooling lasts for several hours and is released continuously, so the skin does not feel any stinging.

Method 2: Directly embedding into the top sheet fibers

Cooling agents are mixed into the spinning solution and made into nonwoven fabric fibers. The entire top sheet then has built in cooling properties without any post treatment spraying. The advantage is uniform and stable cooling, but the disadvantage is that it requires specialized fiber modification technology, which increases cost.

Common Skin Safe Cooling Ingredients

Menthyl lactate: Much milder than menthol, no irritating odor, long lasting cooling. It is a commonly used ingredient in hygiene products.

WS-3, WS-23: Synthetic cooling agents with no odor, pure cooling sensation, and no burning feeling on the skin. They are often used in high end cooling products.

Microencapsulated peppermint oil: Natural origin, but the cooling effect is weaker and the cost is relatively high.

These ingredients are safe for skin, with usage levels typically between 0.1% and 1%, and they must pass skin irritation tests.

How Do Cooling Sanitary Napkins Compare to Regular Ones?

A good cooling sanitary napkin must first meet basic performance standards: absorption speed, dryness, leak protection, and breathability. The cooling effect is an added value on top of that. We have tested this: a sanitary napkin with microencapsulated cooling agents showed no difference in absorbency, rewet, or surface dryness compared to a regular pad, but user comfort scores were more than 30% higher – especially in hot and humid conditions.
