How Is Microencapsulation Technology Used in Sanitary Napkins? How Many Hours Does the Cooling Sensation Last?
Microencapsulation Technology: Putting the Cooling Agent into “Little Capsules”
Microencapsulation technology means encapsulating a cooling agent (such as menthyl lactate, WS 23, etc.) in micron sized capsules, which are then attached to the top sheet or the acquisition distribution layer of the sanitary napkin.
These capsules are very small – invisible to the naked eye. When in use, body heat, moisture, and friction gradually break the capsules, releasing the cooling agent and producing a gentle cooling sensation. Good microencapsulation technology has very little loss of the cooling agent at room temperature, so the cooling effect does not diminish after months of storage.
✅ How Long Does the Cooling Sensation Last? 4 to 8 Hours
Different technologies have different durations:
Microencapsulated sustained release cooling: about 4 to 6 hours. The cooling agent is slowly released from the capsules, giving a gentle, non irritating sensation – not a sudden, strong sting like directly applied menthol.
Compound cooling agent technology: some patented solutions can achieve 4 hours of continuous cooling, with an instant temperature drop of up to 5°C, and the cooling feeling remains even after washing.
Freeze dried microencapsulation technology: uses vacuum freeze drying to encapsulate active ingredients such as vitamin B5; when in contact with liquid, it releases them slowly, with an effective period of up to 8 hours.
Chamomile sustained release chip: gradually dissolves when in contact with body fluid, uniformly releasing active ingredients over 12 hours, mainly providing a soothing effect.
Phase change material microcapsules: absorb and store heat through solid liquid phase change, dynamically and continuously regulating temperature, achieving an auto thermoregulating effect.
In contrast, menthol applied directly to the surface has a strong burst of cooling, but it volatilizes quickly, has a short duration, and may cause a burning sensation.
Two Main Technical Approaches, Two Different Effects
Microencapsulated sustained release type: cooling lasts 4 to 8 hours, gentle and non irritating, suitable for long duration wear.
Phase change temperature regulating type: does not produce a cooling sensation but absorbs excess heat to maintain a constant temperature – physical temperature regulation without a strong cooling stimulus.
