Check the Direction Before Putting Them On

Adult pull-up pants look like underwear, but there is still a front and back. Generally, the back waist is a bit higher than the front, and the absorbent core is positioned toward the front. Put them on backward, and the absorbent core won't line up properly—urine will leak.

How do you tell which is which? The packaging shows diagrams. When you pick one up, the higher waist side goes to the back, the lower side to the front. Not sure? Look for the side seam—the side with the tear-away seam is usually the front. Get this wrong, and even the most expensive pull-ups won't work.

Putting Them On Standing Up — Just Like Underwear

For seniors who can stand on their own, put them on standing up. Step in, pull up to the waist. No different from regular underwear. This method works for people who can still move around—they can do it themselves without help.

Putting Them On Sitting Down — A Safer Option

Some seniors can't stand steadily—sitting down is safer. Have them sit on the edge of the bed or a chair, feet apart. First, pull the pull-up over both feet, up to the knees. Then have them lift their hips slightly, grab the waistband with both hands, and pull up to the waist. Finally, run your fingers around the thigh area to pull out the leak guards.

This step is critical. If the leak guards are folded inward, they won't work. Most complaints about leaks come down to this.

Putting Them On Lying Down — For Bedridden Users

For seniors who can't move at all, put them on lying down. First, open the pull-up and flatten it like a pancake on the bed. Roll the person to one side, tuck the pull-up underneath, position it correctly, then roll them back. Pull the front up between the legs and over the waist. Again, don't forget to pull out the leak guards.

Lying down is more work than standing, but it's simpler than tape-style Adult Diapers—no tabs to align, no tension to adjust. Just pull up.

How to Tell If It Fits Right

After putting it on, you should be able to slide your palm flat under the waistband—not tight, not loose. Too tight and it digs in; too loose and it slides down. For the leg openings, you should be able to slip one finger in. No marks, just snug.

Taking Them Off — No Need to Remove Pants

This is one of the best features of adult pull-up pants. They have tear-away seams on the sides. When soiled, just grab both sides and tear—the whole thing comes off. No need to fully undress. For bedridden seniors, this saves a lot of hassle.
