What Kind of Sanitary Napkins Does the Southeast Asian Market Prefer? Lightweight, Unscented, Individually Wrapped -----------These Are Standard.
Lightweight is the top priority.
Southeast Asia has a hot, humid climate year-round. For local women, the first requirement for a sanitary napkin is that it must be thin. Thick pads feel stuffy and uncomfortable – nobody wants to use them.
For our exports to Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, the thickness of our sanitary napkins is generally kept under 2mm, with daytime pads even as thin as 1.5mm. Thin pads not only feel like nothing when worn, but they also take up less space in the package – more pads per pack, lower shipping costs. Unscented is not optional.
The Southeast Asian market is very sensitive to fragrances. Scented sanitary napkins have very low acceptance there. Many consumers believe that fragrance means chemical additives and worry about skin irritation. We have tested this: with the same quality, unscented pads outsell scented ones by more than three times.
So for exports to Southeast Asia, it is best not to add any fragrance to the sanitary napkin formula. A 100% cotton topsheet, unscented, and no optical brighteners – these are the basic requirements.
Individually wrapped is standard
Southeast Asian consumers pay close attention to packaging. Each sanitary napkin must have its own individual wrapper, and it needs to be well sealed. The local climate is humid, so individual wrapping protects against moisture, dust, and insects. It also keeps the pad hygienic after the pack is opened.
For our clients, we use food-grade film for heat-sealed individual wrappers – clean tear, no sharp edges. Outer packaging can be soft packs, paper boxes, or plastic fliptop boxes, depending on the client’s budget.
✅ Absorbency and Leak Protection Must Not Be Compromised
Thin does not mean low absorbency. Women in Southeast Asia are active – walking, riding motorbikes, doing housework – so leak protection is critical. For our export sanitary napkins, the absorbent core uses a composite of super absorbent polymer (SAP) and fluffy wood pulp, achieving thin yet high absorbency.
Our regular 240mm pads have an absorbency of 80–100ml; overnight 320mm pads exceed 150ml. We also widen the back wing and raise the standing leak guards to prevent side leakage even when sleeping on one’s side.
