Why Is Individual Wrapping Important for Sanitary Napkins? Moisture and Dust Protection Are Not Small Matters
Moisture Protection: Keeping the Absorbent Core Performance
The heart of a sanitary napkin is super absorbent polymer (SAP). Once SAP absorbs moisture, both its absorption speed and its ability to lock in liquid decline. The rainy season in southern China and the high humidity inside a shipping container are hidden threats. Sanitary napkins without individual wrapping come several pieces in one bag. After opening, the remaining pads are directly exposed to air and may become damp before the user even gets to them. Individual wrapping uses a layer of food grade polyethylene film, heat sealed so moisture cannot enter, keeping the SAP dry. We have tested this: under the same conditions, individually wrapped pads showed no change in absorbency after six months of storage. With simple packaging, absorbency dropped by 15% to 20% after just two months.
✅ Dust Protection: Avoiding Contamination You Cannot See
Even the cleanest factory workshop has dust, fibers, and bacteria in the air. With multiple pads in one bag, once opened, the remaining pads are exposed. Individual wrapping keeps each pad sealed until the moment of use – only the pad you tear open is exposed; the rest stay clean. This is a basic requirement especially for products sold through medical or baby care channels. An Australian customer once told us that their supermarket chain refused to accept simply packaged sanitary napkins for the simple reason that “there is no way to guarantee the hygiene of the remaining pads after opening.”
💯 Portability: Users Are Willing to Carry Them
An individually wrapped sanitary napkin fits easily in a bag and does not dirty your hands when torn open. Users are happy to carry a few with them. A large, simply packed bag – no one wants to carry that around. For the sanitary napkin product category, “being able to be carried out” is itself a key driver of repeat purchase. When a user finishes the ones she has with her, she goes and buys a small pack to replenish. Once that habit is formed, sales volume naturally stabilizes.
🏭 Individual Wrapping Is Not Unreasonably Expensive
The cost of individual wrapping is roughly $0.002-0.007 per pad. For a sanitary napkin that retails for cents or one or two dollars, this share is very small. But the shelf acceptance, consumer trust, and product shelf life that individual wrapping brings are worth far more than those few cents. We produce sanitary napkins and adult pullup pants, and for all these products individual wrapping can be custom printed according to buyer requirements. Samples and cost comparison sheets are always available.
